The 8th Feng Zikai Chinese Children's Picture Book Award Ceremony

We were delighted to attend the 8th Feng Zikai Chinese Children's Picture Book Award (FZK) Ceremony was held at the Shanghai International Children's Book Fair on November 8, 2023. A first prize winner and four other outstanding awardees were announced. In addition, 9 picture books were selected for the recommended book list.

 

The Feng Zikai Chinese Children's Picture Book Award (FZK), initiated by the Foundation, has been committed to encouraging, discovering and promoting excellent Chinese picture books since the first Award was announced in 2009.

 

In addition to awarding to the winning works, during the ceremony, the Award judges shared the selection criteria, the current environment of original picture book creation, the promotion of original Chinese works in the world, and the expression of children’s authentic view in the works. It was an enriching and most illuminating conversation for all who participated.

The keynote speaker at the Awards ceremony was world renown picture book writer Suzy Lee, who shared her rich, creative and valuable experience on the theme of "Exploring the Artistic Possibilities of Picture Book Creation". She believes that picture books are a very flexible medium that can create different dimensions of storytelling through different designs. Her deep insights and love for picture book creation left a deep impression on the attendees.

The Awards ceremony was also live broadcast via online platform, with a total of one million views recorded. This is an affirmation and endorsement for the importance of the FZK Book Award, and will also be a force for our continuous progress.  We look forward to seeing the talent that is discovered at the next Awards ceremony will be in 2025!
